You may not know Jenna Lyons by name, but you probably know her style. As the president and creative director of J. Crew, she’s influenced the classically chic looks of consumers from the average mall goer to Michelle Obama.
Now her critics have something else to crow about: The New York Postreported Tuesday that Lyons, 43, is in the midst of a messy divorce from her husband of nine years, artist Vincent Mazeau. And according to the Post, since their summer split, Lyons has gotten romantically involved with another woman who works in the fashion industry.
A representative from J. Crew declined to comment on Lyons’ personal life.
It’s likely Lyons never envisioned garnering this much interest. The six-foot-five brunette has become an icon for fashion lovers in the past year, in part because of an “Oprah” segment on her personal closet. But in an interview with New York Magazine published in August, Lyons questioned her influence.
“My goal is not to be a tastemaker,” she said. “It has never been that. I don’t consider myself that at all. The idea that you can make taste or influence someone’s taste is a very precarious and overly presumptuous concept.” She added, “Hubris is not so cute.”
